Our favourite hot drink ideas for your flask or when you are dried off after your surf or swim (after a cold-water swim).

You know my feelings about cold water immersion! So, while I might not always be super keen to take the cold plunge on these chilly mornings, I love the post-dip warm-up. This usually takes the form of a steaming hot beverage and an Octohoodie. Here are my top 5 hot drinks after a beach dip with my kids near me.

I love that Hans & Lloyd specialises in delicious artisanal roasted coffees handpicked from around the world. Whether you like them short, strong and black (like I do!) or milky, creamy and sweet, Hans & Lloyd is the go-to after a dip at Muizies.

Chai at Empire Cafe, 11 York Rd, Muizenberg

For those who want the warmth of a hot drink minus the caffeine rush, Empire Cafe is just a few shops down and they make the most delicious Chai Tea (and pastries). From the seashell chandeliers to the surfboards on the wall and the gorgeous spiral staircase leading to an indoor balcony, this is a beach-lovers paradise. My kids and I enjoy sitting upstairs looking over the sapphire ocean sipping on hot drinks and (occasionally) enjoying one of their delicious Almond Croissants.

Vanilla Latte at Starbucks, Muizenberg Beach

So my daughter is a Starbucks fan and of their hot drinks in general. Where else can you get a Caramel Macchiato, a Spiced White Chocolate Mocha or a Dark Cocoa & Orange Oat Latte? My personal favourite is the Vanilla Latte: milky, sweet deliciousness, but make sure your kids don’t sneak a sip or else they’ll be bouncing off the walls for the foreseeable future.
