Beach Volleyball Fun Where Every Swing Tells a Tale

Sometimes, I don’t feel like diving straight into the icy cold, Cape ocean. I prefer to ease in and a spirited game of beach volleyball does the trick. Just a fantastic way to warm up, have a blast and enjoy some quality time with friends and family (sometimes attracting new ones as the game goes on).

It’s quite honestly the gateway to forging long-lasting friendships (and friendly rivalry), fostering a sense of belonging among friends, and ensures your muscles protest the next morning. It is one of those sports my whole family can play. We set up our makeshift court, mark our boundaries, and launch into our first volley.

Then the madness begins when you realise that the ball is about as predictable as a cat wearing tap shoes! You also soon realise that the best stories are often those that leave you with sandy feet and hair, and a heart full of laughs. Like surfing!

But all in all, it’s a fab way to bond, warm up, fall about, and get that heart rate up before you hit the waves. I advise that when you partner with your kids, intertwine competition with support. It can get tense.

Now, let’s look at my choice of title – “Whale of a Time.” In beach volleyball lingo, it’s more than a quirky phrase. It is about embracing a fearless approach – that no-holds-barred swing where you give it your all, no matter what the circumstances are! But if you feel like sitting out, and want to just watch everyone tumble around, stay in your Octohoodie! It does the same thing. It’s all about seizing the moment, creating memories, and swinging away with all the might in the world.

See you on (or in) the sand! 🏊‍♀️ 🌊 🐙
